Most Reverend Bryan Joseph McEntegart
Fifth Bishop of Ogdensburg
(1943-1953)
Most Reverend Bryan Joseph McEntegart, fifth bishop of Ogdensburg, selected as his motto, ESTOTE FACTORE VERBI, “BE DOERS OF THE WORD.”
The blue dexter field of his shield has the silver fortress of La Presentation and the golden oak leaves of the Ogden (oak dene) family.
The sinister impalement has a gold chalice, a symbol of the priesthood, and three shamrocks taken from the coat of arms of the McEntegart family of Ireland.
The star above the chalice represents Bishop McEntegart’s former service as national Secretary for the Catholic Near East Missions, while the background of red, symbol of charity, commemorates the Bishop’s years in the office of Catholic Charities.
The external ornaments include the green gallero with six tassels arranged in three rows on either side of the shield, and a processional cross, miter, and crosier, which denote the episcopal rank.
