If you are pregnant or have a newborn, the Angels of Project Gabriel are here to help you and your baby. Some Mothers need an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on or prayers. Some need baby clothes or diapers. Some need more and some need less. It doesn't matter. If you need help, please call us at 315-276-9654.
The Gabriel Project dates back to 1973 in response to the Roe vs Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion in the United States. In Houston, Texas, Rev. Msgr. John Perusina placed a sign outside his rectory stating “If you will have your baby, this parish will help you in every way.” In 1990, Cathy McConn and Rex Moses of Corpus Christi noticed the sign and developed the Gabriel Project throughout the Houston/Galveston/Corpus Christi Dioceses. It has since spread into many parishes across the United States and Canada. In 2001, the Diocese of Ogdensburg began offering the ministry of the Gabriel Project due to the prompting of Rev. Floyd Bleaux and with the blessing of Bishop Gerald Barbarito. On May 21, 2017, Rev. Joseph Morgan commissioned the first group of Gabriel Angels for the Ogdensburg Area Gabriel Project.
The name “Gabriel Project” comes from the Gospel of Luke. The Angel Gabriel shared the good news with the Blessed Virgin Mary that she was to be the Mother of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He told her that “Nothing is impossible with God.” Gabriel Project carries the same message to pregnant women in need, who may be frightened and alone. The purpose is to assist pregnant women in crisis to obtain the help they need physically, spiritually, and emotionally and to save the lives of their unborn babies. The Gabriel Project is Catholic, but serves pregnant women of any denomination who may be in need of help.
Our Gabriel Project serves Ogdensburg, Heuvelton, Lisbon, Morristown, Hammond, and Rossi areas. We have assisted many Mothers in caring for their babies. We not only offer diapers, clothing and baby hygiene products, but also prayers, support, and resources with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Donations by very generous, caring, and compassionate parishioners make all of this possible. The Gabriel Project has received immense support from:
Thank you to Bishop LaValley and all of the Pastors for their cooperation, blessings, and guidance.
