In 1931 the Empire State building was completed and construction of Rockefeller Center on Manhattan began. A gallon of gas was 10¢, monthly rent ran $15 a movie ticket was 23¢, and Al Capone was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Most importantly, and never to be forgotten, Richard Sturtz was welcomed into the world on January 16th. We’re so glad he was! Our diocese has received so much from Father Sturtz...as Priest, Teacher of seminarians, Chaplain, champion of missions, pilgrim and good friend. We thank God for you and pray that He will keep you, whose heart, hands and voice have been that of Jesus to us. God bless you on your birthday!
Live-streamed from the Cathedral at 11 am on Jan. 24, Diocesan Mass for Life - Celebrated by Bishop LaValley. Please join in person or virtually to pray for a deeper respect for human life. For more information contact the Respect Life Office at cminer@rcdony.org
Parish Mass Schedule Welcome back, everybody! How good that we can gather, with precautions in place, to worship God and celebrate our faith. Here is the Mass schedule for now: Daily Mass 6:45am Monday through Friday at Notre Dame Church, 12 Noon Monday through Friday at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Weekend Mass 4pm at Both Notre Dame and St Mary’s, 8am at St. Mary’s, 9:30am at Notre Dame, 11am at St. Mary’s. The two added Masses are to allow for social distancing. We want you to feel safe when you come to pray. Those in the same household may sit together; others, please maintain a six-foot distance. Wear masks, except when receiving Holy Communion. Use the hand sanitizer provided at the entryways, as you enter and leave. When leaving, please allow those nearest the exits to leave first. Maintain the social distance then, too. Any parish donations/tithes may be left in the baskets at the front and rear doors. We can do this! Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation.
The Vocations Committee distributes a newsletter every Christmas and Easter. Just because we're separated from distributing a paper version, doesn't mean we can't share an electronic newsletter. We think you will enjoy getting to know four men soon to be ordained priests and deacons for our Diocese. You can read their stories on your PC, tablet or phone or print it! UPDATED: Until the Cornavirus crisis abates, Bishop LaValley will be privately celebrating Mass at the Cathedral at 8am each Sunday. This Mass will be livestreamed. For links to the livestream and other resources, click the header.
Bishop LaValley has made the difficult decision to suspend all public Masses until further notice. During this time period, all the faithful are dispensed from their Sunday obligation to participate at Mass. Both Churches will be open for private prayer from 9 am until 3 pm. Please keep social distancing (at least 6 feet) a priority. The Church will be cleaned thoroughly every day.
We're so grateful to those who are maintaining their giving during this Crisis! Several have asked about dropping off envelopes at the Office. We are requesting that envelopes be mailed to the office at 125 Ford Ave. Our mail is checked daily, and all monies received will be kept securely and processed regularly.
Following State Directives, no visitors are allowed at area Nursing Homes until further notice. Mass Intentions for St. Joseph's Masses will be satisfied by Father Sturtz at whichever Parish Mass he concelebrates.

Support of the Bishop's Fund Appeal will enable the Diocese to provide the vital ministries and programs that our parish could not provide on our own.. Our parish goal for St. Mary's Cathedral and Notre Dame Church is $97,681. We hope all our parishioners will participate! Members should have received envelopes and pledge cards in the mail. Extras are available at the entryways of both Churches. Thank you!
