Our Lady's Outreach Ministry (OLOM) exists to meet the needs of the poor of St. Lawrence County and to support other charitable organizations such as Catholic Charities, The Good Samaritan Fund, and pastors of both Catholic and non-Catholic churches in need of funds for emergency and certain ongoing purposes.
Our Lady's Outreach Ministry was formed to replace the St. Vincent de Paul Society which was disbanded in Ogdensburg several years ago. The Society had operated a second-hand store on Ford Street for many years. OLOM opened a new store for used clothing and other goods in the former Bishop Conroy School building at the corner of Morris and Washington Streets in Ogdensburg. People from all over St, Lawrence County and beyond shop our store.
OLOM is staffed by two teams of volunteer members: the Retail Team and the Outreach Team.
The Retail Team is made up mainly of ladies who
attend St. Mary's Cathedral and Notre Dame Church. The store's inventory comes entirely from donations from people who find themselves with items they no longer need. To be accepted, items must be clean and in good-to-excellent condition. Our shelves are always full of great bargains.
The Executive Team is charged with the financial side of the ministry. Team members are mostly men with various business and professional experience. After paying for utilities and other operating expenses, all proceeds of store sales are used to assist those in need. Our beneficiaries are people who are in moderate to desperate, immediate need. This team works with priests of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish, pastors of other local churches, and other charitable organizations such as Catholic Charities, and the Good Samaritan Fund that is operated by the Diocese of Ogdensburg.
Customers of the Outreach Store enjoy the ever changing selections, the quality of the clothing and other goods on display, and the real bargain prices. If you haven't seen the store yet, treat yourself to a visit soon. And if you have some things that need a new home, we'll be happy to take them.
Each classroom on the ground floor of the old school is now a store "department". Shown here is a photo of the Children's Department. Recalling the original purpose of the space, the sign on the door reads, CHILDREN'S ROOM.
New shoppers are amazed at the selection, the quality and condition of the clothng. It really doesn't feel like a 'second-hand store'! Expecially with such bargain prices.
Walking into our Women's Department may remind you of a favorite shopping mall store.
